Fishing Rooms 1805

I went through the 1805 Fishing Rooms or Plantation Books at Newfoundland GenWeb for entries in the Holyrood, Harbour Main, Chapel’s Cove area to get an idea of population numbers for that time period.

Some of these plantations had three and four houses on them. Since we don’t know how big the structures were we can only guess at the number of people who were living in the Harbour Main District at the time.

Harbour Main

Some of the enteries for Harbour Main seem to include fishing rooms in Gasters. From what I’ve been told Gasters began about where the Harbour Main Graveyard is now, and ran along the North side of Harbour Main bay to the bottom of the hill near the Avondale graveyard. My mother told me there used to be a road of sorts that went through the area.
